How can this be?!

The hospice was like a funeral home today. You would say, "Duh!" but today was different. The person who died was one of the nurses.

Joan G had an abdominal aneurysm that burst unexpectedly, and she died early this morning. I just spoke with her the other night about a patient, and my husband volunteers with a patient for whom Joan was the primary nurse. How do you tell a hospice patient that his nurse, the one who makes sure that all is kept right for him, has died? And Joan was raising her six year old granddaughter, whose mom (Joan's daughter) died two years ago. All so very sad.

Please pray for that little girl, the family, and for those who are left.

The caregivers aren't supposed to go first.

Wow. I am sorry to hear that. I'm sure everyone at Hospice is, for lack of a better term, stunned.

You are right. The caregivers are not supposed to go first. The children aren't supposed to go before their parents, and the well one is not supposed to die unexpectedly and leave the sick one. My prayers are with all of you.
