I have not been sleeping well at all with my topsy turvy schedule at work of late. I went into work already tired evening before last, and had to stay over an hour and a half to get my charting done as it was so very busy. I didn't get into bed until 1:30 am and didn't get to sleep until after 2 am. Woke up for a while at 4 am, then up for good at 7:30.
The tons of errands I had to do yesterday I did do, I just don't remember, quite, actually doing them. I really wanted some sushi for lunch but when I got to the sushi place I noticed I had very little cash. I was too tired to run to the ATM and then come back, so I did something terrible--went through MacDonald's drive through! I never, ever do that for various reasons. But I was hungry and tired and I did have $3.
Taciturn and I spoke later and he was dumbstruck that I went to Micky D's.
I do recall stepping into the rarified air of Borders (the only operating book store in town) yesterday. GS#2 wants a Handy Manny DVD for his birthday next week, and one was at Borders. I love book stores. I can think in them, write in them, relax in them. It is as if all of the outside world slips off as I walk through the door. I wandered around for a while just being. I saw a paperback I've wanted to read for years, Girl Meets God by Lauren Winner. I picked it up and I will start on it today.
T is now at his folks in Baltimore. I spoke to his mom and she said she missed me and hopes to see me again "soon." Sigh. Thanks for the prayers for safe travel. Now I pray for an uneventful and drama-less stay.
Last night I had planned to go to the Lenten soup supper at church. When the time came to leave, I was so tired I was nauseated. I went to bed at my usual time, 9 pm--and woke up at 2 am. I tossed and turned for hours. I did sleep again for an hour and a half. This is crazy. It only will get worse, as I work the evening shift tomorrow and then the all night shift Saturday and Sunday nights. At least T isn't here to be bothered with my tossing and turning.
Among my many roles and identities are that of a grandmother of three, and a proud follower of the Episcopal tradition. Thus, Episcogranny.

Another chapter of Sunday musings
Slept like a rock last night. I felt better today than I have in days. Sleep is NOT overrated! Got lots of work done around the house today.
My friend AMH from my year at VTS called today; she is being interviewed for a position at the church T and I attended on the Mississippi Gulf Coast when he was at Keesler AFB. We chatted about my impressions during the time we were there (we liked the parish a lot). After we hung up, I remembered some of the folks I was friendly with in this parish and wrote a bunch of emails just to say hi. The one and only time I was asked to be a godparent was in this parish. The Episcopal Church is a small church, to be sure.
Recalling the reason I did not leave on time yesterday from work...can't really give details without violating the privacy of those involved. Just be sure that you have everything you want legally done with your affairs taken care of before you are incapacitated. Some innocents will suffer since in their case that wasn't done.
This job is really making me think about things I'd never, ever considered before. Certainly, to make sure all is in order at all times just in case is a true act of love.

Sleepytime
Forgive me, but I have a weird work schedule this week.
I wanted more hours, and got them. I work three 11 pm to 7 am shifts this week--each two days (or nights?) apart. Last night was the first of them. It wasn't too bad of a night until an hour before I was supposed to leave, then it got really busy. I didn't get to bed this morning until 9:30.
So, of course, I slept right through my alarm. This afternoon at one I was to attend an important meeting at church vital to my lay Eucharistic visitor re-training (I performed that ministry when I lived here before, and feel called to resume it). I woke up when it was half over. When I figured in dressing and travel time, it didn't make sense to go for the rest.
Most people are not summoned to meetings at 1 in the morning. When I explain it in those terms to our deacon, maybe I'll get a pass.
Changing the subject...I read Dick Cavett on the NY Times website. He has a wicked humor and is spot on in his observations. Take, for example, this observation about the liberties taken by Sarah Palin with the English language:
Could the willingness to crown one who seems to have no first language (italics mine) have anything to do with the oft-lamented fact that we seem to be alone among nations in having made the word “intellectual” an insult?
Ouch. He nailed it, you betcha.
